Sant Goroba Kumbhar Samadhi Temple

Gora Kumbhar (1267 AD – 10 April 1317) was a saint of the Varkari sect of Maharashtra. He is considered to be a contemporary of Namdev and Dnyaneshwar and according to experts, Sh. He must have been born in the year 1189 (1267 AD). Saint Gora Kumbhar has written many Ambhags. Gora Kumbhar was a great devotee of Vitthala (Panduranga).He took samadhi on Chaitra Krishna Trayodasi, Shaka 1239 (10 April 1317).

Gora Kumbhar was a spiritual saint, an extraordinary devotee of Vitthal of Pandharpur. Goraba was the oldest among the Saints. Everyone called him Gorobakaka. Their village is Ter-Dhoki (also known as Satyapuri or Terna) near Dharashiv-Osmanabad in Marathwada. Gorobakaka, though worldly, remained dispassionate. His paramarthic authority was great, his word was considered standard in the paramarthic realm.

The memory of Shri Vitthala was constantly in his mouth. They were not aware of anything before Naamsmarana. The following story is told about his immersion in devotion.

Once his wife went out to fetch water. She had asked them to keep an eye on her new baby. Gorobakaka was trampling and mudding the soil required for making carts and pots. He trampled underfoot while muddling their little baby, but they did not realize it. When the wife brings water, she sees her child is dead. Gorobakaka came to his senses when she broke the hambarda. By then time had passed. The goroba wondered what we had done. He was cremated in deep remorse. But after some time, by the grace of Vitthala, his child came back to life and he got his wife back. After that his wife also became a devotee of Vitthal.

A fair of saints such as Nivrittinath, Saint Dnyaneshwar, Sopandev, Muktabai, Saint Namdev, Chokhamela, Visoba Khechar and others gathered at Ter-Dhoki near Sant Gorob. On this occasion, on the request of Saint Dnyaneshwar, the Gorobakakas conducted a test by hitting everyone on the head to see how firm their heads are.

The gifts of Nirguna came to Saguna. On the occasion of tav jhalo, the quality. In such fragments, the realization of non-dual realization seems to be manifested only. ‘Mhanne Gora Kumbhar’ is his motto.

The post-enlightenment path of devotion propounded by Saint Dnyaneshwar seems to have been accepted by Saint Goroba. Saint Gorobakaka is the best example of how charity can be achieved through prapancha. His tomb is in Ter Gavi. This village is in the present Osmanabad district and is also close to Latur.

Public transport is available. From Osmanabad, Terla devotees come for darshan through Upla (Ma.) route – 25 km, Waruda route – 23 km, Kajla – Vanewadi route – 22 km. Distance from Ter to Solapur is 80 km, Distance from Ter to Latur is 60 km and Distance from Ter to Barshi is 60 km.
